Historic Hutchinson Homestead Tours
There is a charming old home on the north side of U.S. Highway 50 halfway between Poncha Springs and Salida. Everyone has seen it as they drive to and from Salida. Built in 1873, It is the Hutchinson Homestead, headquarters of the Hutchinson family ranch for 135 years. Have you ever wanted to go inside? This summer we are offering tours of the Historic Homestead between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on June 14 and 28, July 12 and 26, and August 9 and 23.

On those dates, feel free to drop in at 8913 West Highway 50 (just like the Utes, cowboys and ranchers used to do) and a docent will tell you about the Hutchinson family and their ranching history and show you how the Homestead is being renovated for future use as a museum and cultural center. The tours are free with donations gratefully accepted and earmarked for ongoing renovation of the site. To arrange a group tour at a different time or date, call Glenn at 719-539-4097. Sponsored by Friends of the Hutchinson Homestead and Salida-area Parks Open Space and Trails (SPOT). For more information, call Katy at 719-539-9656.

Western Concert in Poncha Springs Town Park

Food, beer and beverages available for purchase; horseshoe pitching contest and prizes; square dancing by the Monarch Mavericks; tours of the Homestead by shuttle from the park. For more information, call Katy 719-539-9656 or Poncha Springs Town Hall 719-539-6882.

$300 SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION COURSES AT CMC
Click for more infomation and application
Historic Salida Inc. raised $801.00 at its last benefit for historic preservation.  This is what HSI netted after expenses incurred producing Battle of the Titans: A public debate April 11 at the Steam Plant Theater on the question Who Needs Denver between Salida's Ed Quillen and Dr. Colorado Tom Noel of Denver.  The debate was meant to be fun and the audience seemed to enjoy the verbal sparing match just as much as the participants.  The funds raised will go to work as scholarships for students enrolled in any of the Historic Preservation courses offered at Colorado Mountain College.  Please inquire about the scholarship program, which is explained on this website, along with contact information and the application form.  Finally, thank you once again, to all the sponsors of Battle of the Titans.  Sponsors included Salida Realty Company, Pinon Real estate group, Law Office of Ernest F. Marquez, Central Colorado Humanists, The Mixing Bowl, Milt and Donna Francis, High Country Bank, Kinzie's Tooth Powder and Higgins and Powell Undertakers: You plug'em, we plant 'em.
