HA scholarship program of up $300 per person for deserving students enrolled in the historic preservation curriculum at Colorado Mountain College has been established by Historic Salida Inc.  The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage residents of Chaffee County to learn about historic preservation both in principle and in practice.
"We want to invest in the people who will make historic preservation work in our community," said Earle Kittleman on behalf of Historic Salida Inc.  "We also want to support CMC's new curriculum under the leadership of Robert Ogle who teaches most of the courses in Salida, Buena Vista and Leadville at the CMC Timberline campus."
CMC confers historic preservation certificates as part of its Associate of Arts program.

Deadline for scholarship applications is Jan. 2.  Spring semester courses start Jan. 14 in Introduction to Historic Preservation, History of American Architecture, Stained Glass I and Period Furniture Reproduction.  Courses will be presented in Salida except for History of American Architecture, which will be held at the CMC Chaffee County Academic Center in Buena Vista.  The Center has detailed information about the courses at 395-8419.

A brochure about the CMC program can be obtained on their website: www.coloradomtn.edu, by calling CMC Central Admission Office at (800) 621-8559 or by contacting Robert Ogle at (719) 486-4230.

To qualify for scholarships, you must reside in Chaffee County, be enrolled at CMC and submit an application form with a one-page essay about your interest in historic preservation.  Historic Salida Inc. is targeting those who are currently employed in the construction trades, builders, nonprofit organization workers and employees with responsibilities for historic preservation with the City of Salida, Buena Vista or Chaffee County government.
